3D is getting more involved into various different areas, everything from development of films, virtual reality, scientific research, to special design. It is touching hundreds of industries right now. If you want to get into a lot of research, visualization, medical design, much of that is 3D modeling. In short – the world needs 3D modelers.

When talking about the creation of the 3D models, photogrammetry based software can be great help. 3D models are simple to create and does not require much investment when you have photogrammetric software – all you need is a few photos.

Pixpro software for 3D model creation

Most computers do not come with the software needed for 3D modeling. What you want is something that is high quality, nimble, can be used to learn on and yet be able to offer room to grow.

If you are interested in 3D object reconstruction and detailed analysis, try Pixpro software that constructs highly realistic 3D models.

A final thought – check your hardware before buying any software. If you do not have the right machine, to handle the 3D object reconstruction can take much longer. Your computer is recommended to meet the minimum specifications, at the very least.

Photogrammetry as a first step to 3D modelling

Photogrammetry is one of the simplest and fastest ways of getting high-quality 3D models. It is often applied to create realistic scales of objects utilizing a series of overlapping photographs. Applications of spatial analysis are evident in such areas where photogrammetry is used to realistically recreate architectural scales. One benefit of photogrammetry is that common photographs can be utilized to recreate 3D or 3D-like views. This has made it a cost-effective way to create 3D objects without the presence of laser scanners or other equipment.

Learn the basics of 3D modelling and photogrammetry

When you finally have a software, now, it is time to get your hands dirty. You should start looking into building your skills once you feel comfortable with the basics.

If you have doubts while using the software, check out the Pixpro Support group, where the 3D modelers and technology enthusiasts gather to share their experiences, and discuss the creation process. Here you will find the latest updates and new releases.

Photogrammetry capture and drone flying tips

So, there are few extra steps for how to get started with 3D modelling. Follow them and you will be making models in no time at all:

  • There is a widespread opinion, that flying with a drone from the lower height (lower than 30 m), the best GSD result is possible. This is not always true, because some things depend on the flying and photographed area, the UAV/drone built-in cameras, etc. For instance, for the DJI drones (phantom or inspire), most commonly used cameras are 12 MP, but you should pay attention to some details – in which height photos are being made, what is the speed, time and weather conditions.
  • Don’t be afraid of the blank slate – you will not always have something specific in mind when you want to build a 3D model and that is okay. Working from a blank slate is perfectly fine, because it encourages us to experiment with tools and try new things while not working to a structure.
  • When using high resolution cameras, the height can be higher, but you should not exceed the legal permitted height of 120 m.
  • Do not stop working – every minute you spend working has value. Try to boot up your software every day. If you do not feel like creating, try exploring. Find a new tool and figure out what it does. Every little helps you become more familiar with the software.

3D modelling is easy with photogrammetry

As soon as you master the functionalities of 3D software and start creating models, shaping the physical world will no longer be an unachievable task. Experiment, test, and put your acquired skills to use to create the required objects.
